چکیده

Graft copolymers of acetylated starch oligomer (AS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were polymerized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). AS was converted to an ATRP macroinitiator by converting a part of the hydroxyl groups of AS to 2-bromoisobutyryl groups. Macroinitiators with varying degrees of substitution for the 2-bromoisobutyryl group were prepared. The polymerizations were conducted using CuBr/BiPy catalyst system, either in bulk or in 1:1 v/v THF solution. They proceeded with first-order kinetics and the molecular weights of the polymers increased linearly with conversion. Graft copolymers with different graft densities and graft lengths were prepared in a controlled manner. The hydrophobicity of these copolymers was studied by contact angle measurements. 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Activator Generated Electron Transfer Combined Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (AGET-ATRP) for Controlled Grafting Location of Glycidyl Methacrylate on Regenerated Cellulose Ultrafiltration Membranes

This investigation indicates the ability to selectively graft glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) only from the external surface of regenerated cellulose (RC) ultrafiltration (UF) membranes using activator generated electron transfer (AGET) atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). This controlled polymerization resulted in epoxy functionalized polymer brush ends. Further reaction of the terminal ep...

Controlled atom transfer radical polymerization of MMA onto the surface of high-density functionalized graphene oxide

We report on the grafting of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) onto the surface of high-density functionalized graphene oxides (GO) through controlled radical polymerization (CRP). To increase the density of surface grafting, GO was first diazotized (DGO), followed by esterification with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide, which resulted in an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiator-functio...

Surface-initiated Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization and Solution Intercalation Methods for Preparation of Cellulose-G-PS-G-PAN/MMT Bionanocomposite

Cellulose was modified by polystyrene (PS) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) via free radical and living radical polymerization, and then cellulose was used as the matrix in the preparation of polymer/clay nanocomposite, through a solution intercalation method. For this purpose, first, the graft polymerization of styrene (St) onto cellulose fibers was performed by using suspension polymerization and ...

Preparation of Reactive and Thermal Stable Hyperbranched Graft Copolymers/ Clay Nanocomposite via ‘Living’ Free Radical Polymerization

Exfoliated poly (Chloromethyl styrene-co-styrene)-g-polyacrylonitryle/organo- modified montmorillonite [P(CMSt-co-St)-g-PAN/O-MMT] nanocomposite was synthesized through solution intercalation method by using atom transfer and nitroxide mediated radical polymerization. At first, poly (chloromethyl styrene-costyrene) copolymer was synthesized by nitroxide - mediated “living” free radical polyme...
